Tree Maintenance

We have recently undertaken some extensive tree maintenance. The entire perimeter of the park has had the overgrown poplars trimmed down. Some of these trees had grown extremely tall. Any unsafe trees were either trimmed down or removed. The willow trees along the dyke side have been cropped to a safe height. Any branches overhanging the dyke have been removed so water flow will not be impeded. Thank you to our neighbouring landowner for granting access to the tree surgeons to allow them to easily and safely operate from your side.

Any large branches and tree trunks have been removed from site and transported to Garstang to be used to produce green energy via biomass burner. Thank you to Bradleys Farms at Preesall for the loan of the trailer to transport the wood. The smaller branches have been chipped. The whole works took just over a week with a full team of 6 men working on it. A big thank you to Charlesworth Tree Services for their professional and hard working approach to the job.

Dyke and Drainage maintenance

This week we have undertaken some drainage maintenance along the perimeter of the park boundary. It is ‘behind the scenes work’ as the dyke cannot be seen from the main park, being hidden by a large thick hedge. We have cleared out the dyke using a digger to remove the build up of silt and vegetation that impedes water flow.

When the wet weather arrives this autumn the dyke system will be able to handle the water that drains into it and take it away from the property preventing any water backlog that creates wet areas of land. We have also begun to locate the field drains in the grass area in the centre of the park so we are able to start jetting the drains to get them back into full working order. This will help any rainwater to drain away quickly and easily so the field remains in a useable condition for the winter.

In the spring of this year some essential tree maintenance was undertaken by professionals. They felled some trees that had become dangerous following the strong winds in the winter time. This has avoided any damage to neighbouring property. So while the digger was available the felled trees have been cleared ready for collection. These will be going for use in biomass energy production.

Although our owners on the park will probably not directly see the scale of works carried out, we hope that they will be able to see the benefits of it this coming winter.

Park Maintenance

Here at Sandy Bay Caravan Park we try and keep the park looking neat and tidy. This involves a rolling schedule of maintenance, with Eric being the organiser behind it all. Eric, with the help of Steve makes sure the park grass gets mowed every week. The edges are kept nice and crisp with the strimmer. The hedges become a bigger job during the summer months as they require trimming more often.

Moving towards Autumn we have a large programme of tree maintenance to undertake. This will include the removal of some unmanaged Willows, and the pruning of Poplars. Some new seedlings of Native species will also be planted to maintain the ecosystem around the park.
